小垂花报春是被子植物门报春花科报春花属的植物。
小垂花报春，多年生小草本。
根状茎极短，具多数须根。
叶丛高不超过1.3厘米，通常多数形成垫状密丛，基部具褐色枯叶；
叶倒披针形至倒卵形，长5 10毫米，宽2-5毫米，先端钝或圆形，基部渐狭，边缘具羽裂状深齿，上面散布少数白色短柔毛或近于无毛，下面沿中肋被短毛；
叶柄不明显至与叶片近等长。
花葶纤细，高1-5厘米，疏被小腺体；
花1-4朵生于花葶端，无花梗；
苞片通常2-3枚，披针形至狭卵形，长1.5-3毫米，常带紫黑色；
花萼杯状，长3-3.5毫米，外面被小腺体，常染紫黑色，分裂达中部或略超过中部，裂片矩圆形或矩圆状披针形，先端锐尖或钝，有时具小齿；
花冠蓝紫色，长4.5-6毫米，筒部短，与花萼近等长，冠檐直径4-6毫米，裂片近四方形或稍呈倒卵形至椭圆形，先端2裂；
长花柱花：雄蕊距冠筒基部约l.5毫米着生，花柱长约3毫米；
短花柱花：雄蕊近冠筒口着生，距基部约2.5毫米，花柱长约0.5毫米。
蒴果近球形，稍短于宿存花萼。
花期7月。
Primula sapphirina has a bell-shaped corolla that hangs downwards, lacks spherical hair tufts at the throat, and has shorter flower styles compared to Primula primulina.
The corolla is blue-purple, 4.5-6 mm long, with a short tube nearly equaling the calyx, and a limb diameter of 4-6 mm. The lobes are nearly square or slightly inverted-ovate to elliptic, 2-lobed at the apex.
Usually 2-3 bracts, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, 1.5-3 mm long, often purplish-black.
It flowers in July.
The scape is slender, 1-5 cm tall, sparsely glandular. 1-4 flowers are borne at the apex of the scape, sessile without pedicels.
It is a perennial herb with a very short rhizome and numerous fibrous roots. The leaf rosettes are less than 1.3 cm tall, usually forming dense cushion-like clusters, with brownish withered leaves at the base.
Primula sapphirina
The leaves are oblong to ovate-lanceolate, 5-10 mm long and 2-5 mm wide, blunt or rounded at the tip, gradually narrowing at the base. The margins are deeply toothed resembling pinnatifid, with sparse white short hairs or nearly glabrous on the upper surface, and short hairs along the midrib on the lower surface.
It grows in moist rock crevices and moss at elevations of 4000-5000 meters in southern Tibet (Yadong, Cona, Dawang), and is found in Sikkim and Bhutan.
The calyx is cup-shaped, 3-3.5 mm long, glandular on the outside, often purplish-black. It is split to the middle or slightly beyond, with rectangular to lanceolate or narrowly elliptic lobes, acute or obtuse at the apex, sometimes with small teeth.
